One of our customers sent us a message the other day. They had just received an order of our Red Bali kratom, and they noticed that it was a slightly different than a previous order of Red Bali they had received from us. This is a good question, and since we know a lot of people are just being introduced to kratom, we thought it would be nice for us to dedicate a blog post to an in-depth explanation about the search for consistency in kratom.
The first thing to consider is that kratom is a plant. It is grown in different places, in different climates and with different growing conditions. When kratom is harvested, only the leaves are removed from the trees, so kratom is harvested year round. All of these factors lead to wide variation in kratom regardless of the source, from the visual appearance right through to the effects.
Next, it is important to identify how your kratom is being grown. There is no doubt that modern agricultural methods - mass farming, chemical treatments - can produce a more consistent product. When we were introduced to kratom, one of the appeals was that it was a natural solution and it was important to us to find kratom coming from growers who use organic methods. Health and safety are important to us, and we are proud of the fact that we do not source kratom that has been grown with the use of pesticides.
We have partnerships with growers in Indonesia, one of the best places to grow kratom in the world. The water surrounding Indonesia is warm, which leads to relatively stable temperatures year round. It has two seasons - a dry season from May to October that gives way to heavy rains until March. April is a bit of a transitory month. Often kratom around summer time offers higher alkaloid contents.
Our kratom comes from jungle trees that have been left to their own devices for many seasons. Each tree has a unique alkaloid profile and we bring in fresh kratom on a regular basis, which means there is going to be some natural variation with each strain across the year.
As the seasons and batches change, there are some tactics you can use that will help you to enjoy your experience:
Thank you for joining us at Canada Kratom Express. If you have questions about consistency, please contact us so we can provide you with the best experience possible.

One of the things I’m learning about Kratom is that sometimes it’s the supplier that determines the color/strain name and sometimes it’s the distributor. How do you guys go about this? Do you determine the strain for yourselves or go by what your supplier says?

Hi Carlo,
That’s a great a question. We can’t speak for other vendors, but we have exclusive partnerships directly with growers. Our owners have been in the industry for enough time to choose the best growers to work with, which includes regular visitations to their farms. It’s easily apparent to us where our strains/colours are coming from due to different factors, including which region we travel to when sourcing, as well as the physical characteristics of the leaves such as vein colours and leaf shapes, compared with other strains that they offer. In this way, our strains are authentic and verified by our growers, as well as by our owners direct on location. We also personally sample products and have a good idea of what we should expect effect-wise. As for Super strains, the leaves are often larger/more mature than the leaves used in regular batches and we also test them all for mitragynine content, which usually works out to 7-15% higher than our Regular strains. Please feel free to get in touch with us if you would like to know more about how we source our products. :)
